Mercy Integrative Medicine Center Closes

After careful thought, we have made the difficult decision with Dr. Suzanne Bartlett to close the Mercy Integrative Medicine Center as of April 30, 2017. Dr. Bartlett’s last day seeing patients will be April 13. There are no other positions affected by this change. The closure of the clinic also includes the integrative medicine storefront located within the Employee Health Center. Dr. Bartlett plans to continue to offer workshops and speaking engagements in the Cedar Rapids area. For more information, visit www.IntegrativeInitiative.com or follow her on Facebook at www.facebook.com/IntegrativeInitiative or on Twitter at @afriendlikejohn. We thank Dr. Bartlett for her innovative work to naturally optimize health and well-being in our community. We wish her the best in her future endeavors.

Mercy Discontinues Mobile Mammography Services after December 31, 2016

When the concept of mobile mammography services came alive in 1986, it filled a gap in healthcare at that time by taking imaging technology to communities with little-to-no access to breast care services. More than 30 years ago, access to advanced imaging was difficult. Fortunately for population health, that’s not true today. As more healthcare organizations, both rural and metro, have adopted breast health as a standard of care, patient access to quality imaging (including 3D mammography) has grown. Because of these positive shifts in local access, Mercy has seen less demand for our mobile mammography service. With attention to financial resources and after thoughtful consideration, we have made the decision to discontinue mobile mammography after Dec. 31, 2016. We’re confident that the increased access to quality breast care services will meet needs effectively. Mercy is working with rural care providers to ensure convenient patient access to similar services in outlying communities.

The healthcare innovation represented by mobile mammography 30 years ago continues today through technological advancements of MBI, walk-in mammograms and more. We’re proud to have been able to fill gaps locally through mobile mammography during the time it was needed most, and we’re equally happy to see the growth in breast care technology throughout Iowa’s communities that gives all patients easier access to care.
